Being focused isn’t the same as being rigid, you know? Focus is the quality of paying particular attention to a task or goal. Rigidity, on the other hand, means being unwilling to adapt or change. Both character traits can have their highs and lows. At first glance, they may look alike, but the difference often shows when life throws in unexpected turns.
Sometimes, an insistent person may be seen as focused, and at other times as rigid. It all depends on the situation. It’s a great quality to be focused on your projects and avoid distractions. But it’s equally important to remain flexible to the twists and turns along your journey to accomplishment.
I learned this lesson personally and I will share with you how I never gave broadcasting a thought from my days as a student of media studies but today it is a tool that has shaped and is still shaping my projects and business for greater possibilities.
Back in school, I carefully avoided broadcasting, I selected my courses to avoid mainstream broadcasting, except it was compulsory.
I believed my strength was in writing, to never be seen but felt and I was perfectly fine with that. I had mapped out the route I wanted to travel in life early on, but I couldn’t see the tool that broadcasting could become.
Broadcasting? That didn’t fit my private personality. I told myself, “That’s not for me.” And for a while, I was right, until my life’s journey demanded something different, ‘forcing’ me to evolve into a version of myself I had never imagined. Not only did I become an independent radio producer and show anchor, I have long transitioned from still picture representations online to moving pictures, even live content creation.

The Lessons
Even after you have your plans set, keep an open mind. Life has a way of testing your flexibility. Open-mindedness is a powerful character trait every business person should build. It is the willingness to consider new ideas.

‘Be open-minded’ is the forever learner’s motto. And when those moments of change come, add grace to them. Don’t let jitters show you the way out, grow through the process, and let it shape the bigger you. Stay focused. Stay flexible. Stay open-minded.
