Adieu Mobolade Omonijo – a living library of Nigerian politics takes a final bow from here and all that is here on earth.
Baba, it’s been long, and we are no longer the young men we once were. But I know for sure that neither of us knew the end was near just 48 hours ago when we spoke, as we always did over the last 20 years, and almost daily as real physical next-door neighbours for the last 18 years.
Dear Bolade Omonijo, our well-stocked library of Nigerian politics in the newsroom; you were one of the very few persons in the world who could literally “order” me to pull down a Facebook post even before giving me reasons why I should, and I would without any protests. That was how much I trusted you and the fidelity of your judgement.
Baba, as I call you, although you were younger, ẹ ti di agba gbogbo wa niyẹn o. Ẹ ti di Alagba wa l’ọrun gegẹ bi ẹ ṣe jẹ alagba wa l’aiye.
Ẹ sun sun re. Hin mọ sun tẹtẹrẹ o. Oku Ọlọmọ hi sun tẹtẹrẹ. Gbogbo hun ba ku ki a sọ, o ti di oju ala re ni bẹ ẹ o. I will surely miss you, my brother, friend and colleague. But I will not depart from the paths we voluntarily chose and always profess.
Nlẹ Ọmọ Ọwa. Sun re o.
