As the year draws to a close and many of us naturally slip into the reflection mode. I find myself thinking beyond goals achieved and targets missed in 2025. Rather, I have been thinking about and evaluating my growth as a person this year. I have been thinking about essence and meaning. I have been thinking about what truly stays with one long after the seasons change.
For instance, do you sometimes stop to think about the non-financial benefits you’ll be leaving with when you eventually exit your current place of work? I mean skills, perspectives, values, culture, personhood clarity, etc? Anyways, that’s a conversation for another day.
It would interest you to know that I left PUNCH Newspapers a decade ago with something I still value deeply: ‘the dictionary culture’. It taught me to respect words, to pause to ensure I use them rightly, and to be intentional about their expressions.
So, recently, I used the word visionary in a post, and decided to check again to ascertain its proper usage. I found that it fit the expression perfectly. However, while I was at that search, I stumbled on fascinating meanings of another expression of the root word – vision, and that is the word visioneer! It was contained in a ‘PakMag, November 14, 2019’ article. I fell in love with it so much that I thought to share it with you.
In fact, based on my findings, I decided that I would rather be a visioneer than a visionary.
Here’s why:
- A Visioneer is a human pioneer on a lifelong journey of self-discovery, committed to creating the best vision and version of themselves.
- Visioneers are human explorers who will do what it takes to discover who they truly are and intentionally shape the life they desire.
- They want to become the best human versions they can be, knowing that in doing so, the world becomes a better place.
- A Visioneer inspires others and invites them into this journey of self-discovery, not by force, but by example.
- They observe and listen to themselves and to others, not to respond, but to truly understand.
- A Visioneer’s voyage allows them to create an ultimate vision for their life, one that brings peace, clarity, joy, love, and contentment.
- A Visioneer is a new breed of human who understands the importance of investing in themselves so they can live as their truest selves.
- They know that when they love, accept, and are genuinely happy within, that energy naturally flows outward.
- Visioneers follow their hearts. They make a positive impact. They use their gifts and honour their calling. They love and respect themselves, and that love shows up as joy, warmth, and an energy that draws others in.
My word.
As this year winds down and we begin to look ahead to 2026, maybe the real work isn’t just planning the next chapter, but becoming the kind of person who can live well in it. Plan your personal development to become a person who isn’t merely working or doing business, but living a life of fulfillment rooted in impact.
So, if the idea of being a Visioneer also resonates with you, then this season must be inviting you and I to do more:
*Let’s get down to the real work – personal growth/development.
*Let’s work life out intentionally, courageously, and with a vision that goes beyond the yearly calendar goals.
It’s been absolutely great walking with you this year.
