Every now and then, we hear certain statements that sound harmless on the surface, but when you let them sink deep, they start shaping how you see life, how you make choices, and even how you build your character.
One of those popular assertions is: “No one’s star shines forever.”
Now, that sounds like an innocent reminder for one to, “make hay in your prime time.” But pause for a moment; because if you swallow that line whole, it can quietly wear away your zeal for pursuits. Because if you believe your star is destined to dim, why bother building a future that lasts?
I’m an incurable optimist. My optimism doesn’t float on wishful thinking. It’s strongly rooted in the immutable words of the most influential being ever known: God. That’s why for instance, I refuse to believe the notion that bad people always outlive good ones, or that stardom has an expiry date. History also proves that otherwise: there are men and women whose stars shone from generation to generation, long after they had left the earth. Even physical death did not dim their relevance. Age did not cancel their influence.

So instead of letting such mindsets run you down, let them challenge you to make a difference. Make age-appropriate, knowledge-appropriate, and strength-appropriate investments in yourself and your impact on the world. Build on values that will make you last, because your character, not just time, decides for how long your star will shine.
So instead of letting such mindsets run you down, let them challenge you to make a difference.
And here’s another important truth: whatever you believe forms a pattern for your life. If you choose to be good but secretly believe that doing good exposes you to misfortunes, you may be defeated the moment challenges confront you. But if you choose to believe that your acts of goodness have immediate and subsequent rewards, that conviction will fuel your journey to becoming great.
That’s why every highflyer must learn to:
*Ask critical questions before jumping on any assertion.
*Challenge the idea.
*Create a positive disruption.
*Shape your own experience.
Let’s conclude this on Lao Tzu’s admonition, “Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.”
Cheers to growth, and more decades of shining!
