I will always have problems when I return home and sure as day, I have that plan. I am deracinated. Because, otherwise, how do I find myself getting disappointed by Wasiu Ayinde Marshall’s latest scandal – Saraa ni? I mean, how? Wasiu did not appoint me.
This chap feasts on notoriety – from not taking care of his band members, to giving a photographer a dirty slap, to standing in front of a moving plane, to preventing an ancient civilization from peacefully choosing a successor to its throne. You need a level of notoriety that takes shock out of people to do all that and still get gigs, even if you are the Presidential Minstrel.
I don’t begrudge famous or notorious people for their flaws. We all have ours that we hope destiny keeps under wraps till death do us part. But not all of us would be lucky with that.
So, whether you are famous, or notorious like this writer, you hide your flaws and humanity believes you are wise. Whether notorious or famous, being hit on comes with the job as much as being misinterpreted when you try to be friendly.
So being a musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshall have women hanging on his coat tails like a clown in a chicken coup with corn tied all over him. From the ugly castle where I stand, the chap is handsome. And apparently, he hates to disappoint the ladies.
Apparently, he’ll dip his joystick into any console close by. The campaign against swimming without trunks doesn’t work with him as he tends to pour his semen in every hole. Parental responsibility doesn’t seem to mean much to him. He gladly tells an interviewer that whenever he was done with a woman, he’d leave a shirt, a shoe or a trouser as memento for them.
His latest joyful scandal is his reaction to a lady he had a seven-year dalliance with, an affair that produced a young adult. His response to the lady coming out was wickedly witty. In a live performance, he sings that any woman that gets pregnant ‘anyhow’ for him donates her body for free – in other words, saraa ni – an unrequited gift.
In some climes, he wouldn’t get another gig. Besides he’d have to bring out his instrument for seminal analysis, subject himself to a DNA test, the result of which might break him. In Nigeria, his fans are echoing his retort – saraa ni!
Women truly deserve better. I know its not rape, but if you care enough for a well that you can dip your bucket into it, don’t turn back and spit in it.
The rules of mutual sexual engagement in Naija differs from what obtains in the so-called developed world. When a beauty queen followed IronMike Tyson to the 13th Floor of his hotel, stayed behind when everyone had left and passed the night, Tyson thought he was reaping the fruits of his fame or notoriety. It cost him his career. Puff Daddy is in jail for offenses that some notorious or popular Nigerian artists brag about. Michael Jackson faced accusations that bent and bowed him; and even in death, his estate is not free from legal repercussions of what he might have or not have done.
Bill Cosby went to jail for offences committed way back. Only Donald Trump basks in the euphoria of his own criminality and even gets rewarded for it.
In Nigeria, Wasiu Ayinde, the presidential minstrel went live – as he is want to do (remember the Ganu si saga) – to sing that any lady pregnant without his consent gives a boon, a free gift (sàráà). No remorse, no sense of accountability and motherhood is as quiet as still waters.
I would have thought that our Presidential Musician would conduct himself with a little more decorum than this chap exhibits. But I know that nothing will bring him to account for his genital rascality. I believe he is busy rehearsing for the 2028 presidential campaigns.
I hope the women that spread their legs for him as bragging rights know that this chap will never be responsible for whatever results. All they are giving is – saraa!
In times like these, we need all the distractions we can get – even if the distractions are unconscionable and scandalous.
