Borno: Fire outbreak in IDP camps, destroys 140 shelters

No fewer than 140 shelters were burnt down by fire in two Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps at Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.

The affected camps are the ones at Flatari and Nguro Monguno.

Northeast Information Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Malam Abdulkadir Ibrahim, made the disclosure in a statement on Sunday.

According to him, the incident happened on Saturday.

He said 28 shelters were destroyed at Flatari camp with 20 households affected while 120 shelters were burnt and 77 households displaced at Nguro.

He said no fewer than 371 persons were displaced in the two camps as a result of the fire outbreak.

Ibrahim said the cause of the fire was already being investigated while NEMA and the Borno State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, had begun giving the needed support to victims.
