…assures of a better Lagos
The All Progressives Congress, APC, Lagos State governorship candidate in the 2027 general election, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, KOH, unveiled his manifesto on Friday, promising to ensure a safer, fairer, cleaner and good to live state.
Hamzat is at the moment the deputy governor of Lagos State.
The colourful unveiling of the manifesto was held at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, and attended by personalities from all walks of life, particularly party faithful.
Titled The Lagos Promise (Ileri Eko), the manifesto, the governorship candidate stressed, was built around seven pillars.
The manifesto is made up of 31 chapters and 100 pledges.
Also, it contains 87 firm commitments and 13 aspirations.
Premised on the acronym, P.R.O.M.I.S.E., Hamzat said his activities, if elected, would be about ensuring P -People First, R – Renewal, O – Opportunity, M – Machinery of Government, I – Inclusion, S – Security and Resilience, and E – Everyday Dignity.
Emphasising his determination to make Lagos State a better place to live in, he declared: “Together, we have built one of Africa’s greatest states. Together, we will make it safer, fairer, cleaner and easier to live in.
“Together, we will write its finest chapter. Together, we will move Lagos forward.”
Promising accountability, the governorship candidate said he would put in place the necessary machinery to ensure that.
According to him, soon after he assumes office if voted in, he would establish a Service Delivery Board, and make every government office to display a service charter.
The governorship candidate spoke on some of the key areas he would work on.
They include transportation, housing, security, healthcare and welfare.
He promised to integrate road, rail and water transport modes in order to improve the transportation system in Lagos State.
His words: “I will move Lagos by road, by rail and by water as one connected system.”
On the one hand, he said, he would increase the public bus fleet by the state government from the current 1000 to 4000, and on the other, advance the Green Line from Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, in partnership with the federal government.
While promising to activate the Fourth Mainland Bridge through partnerships, he said the Regional Road along the Lekki-Epe axis would be accelerated.
He also promised to begin work on the second phase of the Opebi-Mende-Link Bridge.
He listed a number of plans to improve on water transportation.
Promising to complete ongoing housing projects in the different parts of the state, the governorship candidate said “I will make mortgages reachable – 10 per cent down, single-digit interest, longer repayment periods.”
In the area of security, he promised that the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency’s activities would be extended to all the wards in the local government areas and local council development areas in the state.
As part of security measures, he said, street lighting and closed circuit television camera coverage on residential streets, riverine communities and peri-urban areas would be increased.
While assuring that the issue of waste disposal would be addressed under his leadership, Hamzat promised there would be increase in water supply.
According to him, Adiyan Phase Two waterworks project would be completed.
He said no fewer than 24 micro and mini waterworks would be rehabilitated while the public water distribution network would be enhanced.
One of the key promises of the governorship candidate is the establishment of a child protection and nutrition agency.
He said he would send a bill to the Lagos State House of Assembly to that effect.
Hamzat said he was aware of the enormity of job before him and asked the people of Lagos State to have trust in him that he would deliver.
“I will respect, I will work and I will uphold the truth. These will dictate my approach to governance,” he said.
While campaigning for his election, he also campaigned for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the coming election.
Well spiced with drama and music, the occasion was used to tell the story of Lagos State from birth and its political development, up to its present stage.
