The August Event: Experts to examine Nigeria’s healthcare system

Dignitaries and seasoned experts from far and wide will, on Wednesday, speak on the state of the healthcare system in Nigeria at the The August Event holding on Wednesday at MUSON Centre, Lagos.

This year’s event is jointly organised by Chief (Dr.) Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi Foundation (M.A. Majekodunmi Foundation) in collaboration with St. Nicholas Hospital, to celebrate the late Chief (Dr.) Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi’s legacy.

Specifically, the experts will look at the nation’s healthcare system, how it started, its present state and where it will be in order to achieve a functional health sector.

The experts will identify the changes that had occurred in the healthcare system by comparing what the nation’s healthcare system was created to achieve in a system that catered to the people and what it has been able to achieve thus far.

The August Event holds every two years, and focuses on the work of the M.A. Majekodunmi Foundation and its corporate social responsibility initiatives in healthcare and education sectors.

It also sensitises participants to cutting-edge advances in medicare with the St. Nicholas Hospital Continuous Medical Education lecture series.

With this in mind, the event will also celebrate the international accreditation of the hospital.

This year’s event will be graced by high-profile individuals including Muhammad Sanusi II Sarkin Kano, who will be the chairman.

To be present too are distinguished personalities in the international healthcare sector, Prof. Adesegun Abudu, of the Royal Hospital, Birmingham, United Kingdom who will deliver the keynote address; the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Enahire; the Commissioner for Health, Lagos State, Prof Akin Abayomi, and the Commissioner for Health, Ogun State, Dr. Tomi Coker among others.

Chairman, M.A. Majekodunmi Foundation, Mr Desmond Majekodunmi stated: “We continue to celebrate on this his birth month, the life and legacy of our father, Dr. Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi – ten years after his passing to greater glory. He dedicated a greater portion of his life to developing the healthcare system in Nigeria and we are proud to continue collaborating with St. Nicholas Hospital on the August Event lecture series; this year will focus on “The Nigerian Healthcare system, the Past, Present and the Future”.

Chairman, The August Event Planning Committee, Dr. Ebun Bamgboye, said “At this August Event 2022, we have brought together distinguished and seasoned medical experts from home and abroad to tackle this topical issue on the healthcare system in Nigeria and how we can move effectively from where we are now, to where we want to be; we are confident that with the panel discussions in place and the Continuous Medical Education lectures lined up; this event promises to be engaging and enlightening.”
