The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Friday refused to appear before the committee set up by the Kano State House of Assembly to probe the case of alleged bribery against him.

Instead, the governor sent the Commissioner for Information, Muhammadu Garba and the Commissioner for Justice, Ibrahim Mukhtar.

His representatives, however, explained that his absence was as a result of some pressing engagements he had to attend to at the Government House.

They said besides, he was given an option that he could be represented and that a statement should be written.

In the document present by the commissioners, Ganduje denied that he ever collected the alleged bribe.

He said it was a calculated attempt to rubbish his political career.

He however warned the publisher of the video to avoid publications that could tarnish the reputation of leaders.

Daily Nigerian, an online newspaper had published a video allegedly showing the governor collecting bribe from some contractors.

The governor has since denied the allegation, claiming that the video must have been doctored.

The State House of Assembly therefore set up a committee, headed by Baffa Danagundi, to probe the case.

The publisher of the Daily Nigerian, Jaafar Jaafar, had appeared before the committee and insisted that the video was authentic.

A similar invitation was sent to Governor Ganduje who refused to appear, but sent representatives.

Meanwhile, the committee which received the document by the governor promised to do a thorough job.
