The sack of the factional leader of the terrorists group, Boko Haram,  Abu Mus’ab Al-Barnawi, by the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, was as a result of internal crisis within the group.

The sack of  Abu Mus’ab Al Barnawi on March 3 by ISWAP led to the emergence of a new leader, Abu Abdullahi Ibn Umar Al Barnawi.

The Multinational Joint Task Force, MNJTF, fighting the terrorists group made this known on Tuesday in a statement issued by its spokesman, Col, Timothy Antigha.

MNJTF attributed the information to a reliable source.

It also disclosed that the leaders of the terrorists group, Boko Haram, were already in disarray following the overwhelming attacks by the Multinational Joint Task Force, MNJTF, in Chad.

The task force, in its operation, Yancin Tafki, has in recent times, intensified both air and land attacks on the terrorists in the Lake Chad region.

According to the statement by MNJTF, some members of the terrorists group “receiving human attention” revealed that the fighting spirit of the terrorists had reduced drastically.

According to the task force the low morale was based on the increasing state of insecurity and lack of food, medicine and ammunition.

Antigha said the series of attacks which followed coordinated day and night Human Intelligence as well as Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions led to the destruction of the facilities of the terrorists  in Tumbum, Gini, Abadam, Arege, Tumbun rego and Dagaya environs between March 7 and March 11.

He said no fewer than 70 Boko Haram vehicles, mostly gun trucks and facilities such as fuel dumps, weapons and ammunition had been destroyed in the past few weeks.

“Furthermore, since the commencement of operation Yancin Tafki, several terrorists have surrendered while others are battle-weary and have indicated interest to surrender.

“Morale of fighters is at its lowest, while desperation has also set in, leading to intrigues and in-fighting,’’ Antigha said.

He added that the frequent execution of Boko Haram commanders and fighters lately was as a result of the  effectiveness of past and ongoing operation Yancin Tafki.

He said  would not rest on its oars in the battle against the terrorist group until it is crushed.
