U20 AFCON: Flying Eagles batter Burundi 2-1

Nigeria’s U20 team, the Flying Eagles, defeated their counterparts from Burundi, 2 – 0, in the 21st Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Niger Republic on Saturday.

It was the first day of the tournament.

Niger Republic which is hosting the event drew 1 – 1 with South Africa.

Although the Nigerian team out-played their opponent in the first half, no goal was recorded.

But the story changed in the second half when Yahaya Nazifi shot into the net of the opponent.

It was in the 55th minute of the match.

In the 71st minute, Effiom Maxwell made it two.

Spirited efforts to increase the goals by the Nigerian players did not yield any fruit.

With the three points earned as against the draw between Niger Republic and South Africa, the Flying Eagles will get a place in the semi-finals of the competition.

Also, the ticket for the summer FIFA U20 World Cup finals in Poland will be guaranteed if they defeat South Africa in the encounter scheduled for Tuesday.

On the same day, Niger Republic and Burundi will trade tackles.

On Sunday, Senegal, Mali, Ghana and Burkina Faso will engage in full battle.
