The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has agreed to condone the admissions of candidates who were offered secret admissions by some tertiary institution from 2017 to 2021.
The agreement was reached sequel to the “noble” intervention of the Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu.
According to the board in its weekly newsletter, JAMBulletin, its Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, made this known on Thursday while speaking at the maiden Matriculation/Capping Ceremony of the Department of Nursing Education, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The Registrar was represented by the Osun State Coordinator, Mr. Babatunde Jacob.
Oloyede urged erring institutions to desist from such ignoble practice and comply with the Board’s directives that all admissions must be conducted through CAPS.
He said the primary purpose of introducing the Central Admissions Processing System, CAPS, in 2017 was to do away with primordial procedures in the admission processes.
He used the opportunity to call on all tertiary institutions in the country to be honest in their dealings with the Nigerian child especially on the issue of admissions.
His words: “It is disheartening today to still see some institutions opting for the crooked option that lacks transparencies or accountability through undisclosed admissions.”
In his concluding remarks, the Registrar advised the matriculating students to concentrate on their studies and shun all forms of examination malpractices, which according to him, was capable of destroying their promising future.
In her remarks, the Director/HOD, School of Nursing Education, OAUTHC, Dr. Mrs. Aderonke Bosede Awosemo, charged the students to see themselves as the few chosen ones hence they should give their best to ensure that they excelled in their studies.
