Court remands man over alleged break-in, attempted rape

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Monday remanded a man, Ebong Ime, for allegedly breaking into the house of a woman and attempting to rape her.

Ime, whose residential address was not given, was arraigned on two counts of burglary and attempted rape.

Justice Abiola Soladoye remanded the defendant following his not-guilty plea and adjourned the case until June 25 for the commencement of trial.

The Lagos State counsel, Ms Abimbola Abolade, alleged that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on October 11, 2021 in Surulere, Lagos.

Abolade told the court that the defendant allegedly broke into the residence of the woman (name withheld) and attempted to have unlawful sexual intercourse with her.

The prosecution also sought for a trial date to bring witnesses against the defendant.

According to the prosecutor, the alleged offences violate Sections 260 and 305 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
