Corruption: At last, EFCC takes Babachir Lawal, Oke to court

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday filed a suit against former Secretary to the Government of Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, at the Federal High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The suit against him is in connection with his alleged involvement in a contract fraud which had to do with the clearing of “invasive plant species” in Yobe State, through the Presidential Initiative on North East, PINE.

Similarly, former a former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA, Ayodele Oke, and his wife, Mrs Folashade Oke, had a suit filed against them at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Joined in the case against Lawal were Hamidu David Lawal; Sulaiman Abubakar; Apeh Monday and his company, Rholavision Engineering Limited.

Josmon Technologies Limited was also joined in the case.

It would be recalled that the Senate ad-hoc committee probing the humanitarian crisis in the North East indicted him over alleged contract fraud in 2016.

He was accused of spending N570 million to cut grass among other alleged suspicious payments involving him and his company.

Lawal was sacked in 2017 by President Muhammadu Buhari over the case.

In the case of the former NIA boss, he was fired over alleged involvement in the possession of a huge sum of money found at Osborne Tower in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Lawal is expected to be arraigned next week while Oke and his wife will face trial on Friday.
