One helicopter used by the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, in the war against the terrorist group, Boko Haram, crashed on Wednesday.

The model of the helicopters and the number of occupants were however not made known.

The helicopter, according to the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, crashed in the night while providing close air support to troops of 145 Battalion at Damasak in Northern Borno State.

Said NAF spokesman:  “The incident occurred about 7:45 p.m. today, 2 January 2019. Details of the cause of the crash are still scanty.

“As soon as the details of the crash are known, they will be made available to the public.”

NAF has been quite active in the attack on terrorists in the North East.

Its activities have led to the killing of many terrorists and the destruction of their hideouts.

The latest of such attack is the one carried out on Tuesday.

It destroyed the building where the insurgents meet near Baga in the northern part of Borno State.

Announcing the action of the Air Force, Daramola said:  “The attack was conducted 1 Jan 2019, after series of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions confirmed that the building was being used as an assembly point by the terrorists. Consequently, the ATF dispatched a NAF Alpha Jet aircraft to attack the building…

“A direct hit was recorded on the target leading to significant damage to the structure and neutralisation of the occupants.”
