Atiku, Makinde visit Obasanjo in Abeokuta

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate in the February 23 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, was in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday on a visit former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

It was the first time Atiku would be doing that after losing to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the election.

Former Governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola and other dignitaries were at the event.

The details of the meeting were however not revealed.

Similarly, the Governor-Elect of Oyo State, Mr. Seyi Makinde, also paid a similar visit to Obasanjo, saying he was there to tap from the wisdom of the former president.

Confirming the visits in a statement by his media aide, Obasanjo called on the people of Oyo State to give the necessary support to Makinde.

This is as he also charged Makinde to avoid corruption and develop the state very well in the area of infrastructure.

“You have a onerous task ahead in improving the status of the capital of the old Western Region and you have to work to unite them all.

“You need to shun corruption, be transparent and embark on developmental projects which would be a delight to the people of Oyo State.

“You need to give them something new, positive and the type of governance which delivers dividend of democracy at their doorsteps,” Obasanjo said.

Makinde, in his statement, said the meeting with Obasanjo in Abeokuta was facilitated by former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),  Chief Bode George.

“The elder statesman has challenged me to improve on the state.

“There is a lot to do and having been prayed for by Baba, we are going with vigour to turn the state around for good.

“I will be coming here from time to time to seek for further wisdom from him,” Makinde said.
