Following alleged submission of “false information” by Dapo Abiodun, the Ogun State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, a suit has been filed to disqualify him from the 2019 general election.

The suit was filed by a member of the APC, Abdulrrafiu Baruwa.

In the suit which he filed at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja, Baruwa who is a lawyer claimed that the false information was in the area of his academic qualification.

Baruwa’s grouse is the Abiodun’s declaration of only the  West African School Certificate which he got in 1978 in the Form CF001 he submitted in INEC form.

He said it was wrong for the governorship candidate not to declare his university degrees – University of Ife, Ile-Ife (1986) and Kennesaw State University, Atlanta Georgia, US (1989) in his INEC form CF001.

The suspicion is that Abiodun’s decision not to declare the two degrees could mean that he did not undergo the compulsory national youth service programme.

Refusal to serve is against the law and could make him not qualify to contest.

Baruwa’s prayers are that:

* Abiodun’s refusal to disclose all his educational qualifications as demanded by INEC in FORM CF 001 amounts to false information

* APC is not at liberty to apply double standards in clearing or disqualifying persons aspiring for elective offices.

* A proper construction of the Forms CF 001 filled and Abiodun submitted to INEC for the 2015 senatorial election and 2019 governorship election

* Disqualifying Abiodun as candidate of the APC having regard to the false information contained in his Form CF 001 submitted to INEC.

* Declaring Jimi Lawal, the aspirant with the second highest votes in the APC primary as the candidate of the APC in the governorship poll.
