The governorship candidate of Labour Party, LP, Alex Otti, has been declared the winner of the March 18 governorship election in Abia State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared him winner on Wednesday after the conclusion of the collation of the results from Obingwa local government area of the state.

According to the Returning Officer, Prof. Nnenna Oti, Otti recorded 175,467 votes, beating his closes rival, Okey Ahiwe of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the second position.

Ahiwe recorded 88,529 votes.

It would be recalled that INEC suspended the collation of results in Abia after thugs invaded its office with results from Obingwa local government pending.

Some INEC officials were held hostage, but were later freed.

The suspension of the collation, INEC, said was to review the electoral process.

INEC resumed the collation today and at the end of the exercise, announced Otti as the winner.

Otti had been in early lead before the suspension of the collation.
