Emmanuel Naibei of Kenya and Meseret Dinke of Ethiopia on Saturday emerged the winners of the 2021 edition of the Lagos City Marathon.
Naibei won the $30,000 cash prize as he returned at the the official time of 2hrs 15 mins 01 sec.
The time falls short of the 2:10:23 record set last year.
Naibei was a runner-up at the 2019 Guangzhou Marathon and among those with podium finishes at the CFLD Beijing Marathon.
He came third at the event.
Daresa Geleta and Demiso Legese who are Ethiopians finished second and third respectively at the Lagos City Marathon sponsored by Access Bank.
Meseret Dinke won the top position in the women’s category, finishing at a time 2:28:51.
She was the winner of the event in 2019 but lost to Sharon Cherop of Kenya in 2020.
Celestine Jepchirchir (Kenya) and Desta Nigist Mulune (Ethiopia) clinched the second and third positions respectively in the women’s category.
The first Nigerian to cross the finish line, Istifanus Peter Mahan, won N1 million as prize for the category.
