A Kano High Court, on Monday, sentenced  Yusuf Ahmad and Auwal Abdulhamid to death by hanging for stabbing their friend Ibrahim Umar-Mahmud to death.

Ahmad, who lives in Rijiyar Lemo Quarters, Ungogo local government and Abdulhamid of Bachirawa Quarters of Kano, were convicted of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

Delivering judgment, Justice Musa Dahuru-Muhammad, held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubts.

Dahuru-Muhammad therefore sentenced the convicts to death by hanging.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Lamido Abba-Sorondinki, informed the court that the convicts committed the offence on June 7 2025, at Bachirawa Quarters Kano.

He said that at about 10 a.m., the convicts  caused the death of Umar-Mahmud, by stabbing him in the chest with a knife after a misunderstanding over football.

“The deceased was rushed to  the Waziri Gidado Hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” the prosecutor said.

The prosecution presented five witnesses and tendered exhibits to prove their case against the defendant.

The convicts, however, denied committing the offence.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 97(1) and 221(a) of the Penal Code Law.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Mubarak Muhammad, presented the convicts to testify in their own defence.
