There are indications that the reintegration and stabilisation of 485 Nigerians who voluntarily returned home from South Africa following xenophobic attacks would be accelerated.
The indication was given by the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
This is as she signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN.
She visited the agency’s Director General of the agency, Dr Dikko Umaru, in Abuja on Wednesday.
Dabiri-Erewa said that the returnees needed to be reassured that President Muhammadu Buhari had not and would not abandon them but ensure their engagement and reintegration.
The Director General of SMEDAN, Umaru, matching words with action quickly agreed to the working out and subsequent signing of an MOU as soon as practicable to factor in the returnees from South Africa through skills acquisition programmes.
Umaru also commended the NIDCOM chairman for her untiring efforts at passionately handling issues affecting Nigerians in Diaspora.
He urged her not to be discouraged.
