The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, has postponed the issuance of the new 10-year enhanced e-passport.

It will now be issued on April 29 as against March 4 2019 earlier announced.

NIS in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sunday James, said its Comptroller-General, Mr Muhammad Babandede, made the announcement.

The postponement, it said, was to finalise the integration of the National Identity Number (NIN) with the new passport.

It would be recalled that the new e-passport was launched by President Muhammadu BuharI on January 16, 2019.

During the launching, it was announced that the new passport with 32 pages would cost N25,000 and $130 abroad; the 64 pages with five years expiration time will cost N35,000 and $150 abroad while the 64 pages with 10 years validity will cost N70,000 in Nigeria and $230 abroad.

Babandede spoke on the news passport:  “The new passport reform programme is weather friendly, International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) compliant, it has polycarbonate technology that eliminates damage, enhanced security features and save Nigerians in the Diaspora time of frequent visit to Nigerian Embassy among others.”
