The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service’s Y2023 first bi-annual staff engagement for firemen is to set they year’s agenda in order to reduce fire outbreaks in Lagos State and further enhance service delivery.

This was made known by the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Adeseye Margaret, while briefing newsmen on activities of her agency to ensure the reduction of fire outbreaks in the metropolis.

The event which took place at Alausa, Ikeja, on Tuesday, has as its theme, “Integrating the Workforce for Effective Service Delivery” with the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties and Inter-governmental Relation, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende and Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Mr Sesan Tunde Ogundeko, among others in attendance.

Adeseye, however, reiterated that the essence of the meeting was to strategize through networking, sharing of ideas among firefighters for the purpose of using fire prevention tactics to fight fire outbreaks in the state.

According to Adeseye, fire incidences increased indiscriminately from November through December 2022, and investigations revealed carelessness and negligence as the major causes.

Other factors, she said, included fuel scarcity and harmattan haze, which also triggerred the increase of fire outbreaks.

She therefore urged Lagosians to desist from the habits that might put unnecessary pressure on the fire service operations in the state while assuring the public that the fire agency had what it took to ensure reduction of fire outbreaks.

“The state government under the leadership of Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwao-Olu has handed over 62 fire apparatuses, renovated and reconstructed existing fire stations, constructed four new fire stations while the construction of three additional fire stations is ongoing at Oworonshoki, Ijede and Ijegun Egba to further boost the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery in and around the state,” she said.

The Special Adviser to the governor on Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Ogunlende, confirmed that the officers had dedicated themselves to the service of humanity, pointing out that the percentage representation of the officers in the hall showed that they were prepared for the task ahead for the year 2023.
