In its bid to ensure safety, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has temporarily closed Port Harcourt International Airport runway.
The action was taken as a result of the bush fire incident near the area.
The General Manager, Corporate Affairs, FAAN, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, who made the announcement of the closure in a statement issued on Saturday said the situation was being evaluated.
The essence, she said, was to ensure that the airside of the Port Harcourt International Airport was cleared of smoke and ensure that normalcy was restored at the airport.
Her words: “A joint team from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency is presently evaluating the situation.
“This is with a view to ensuring that the airside is cleared of smoke and restoration of normalcy at the airport,” she said.
She reaffirmed the commitment of FAAN to ensuring safety, security and comfort of passengers and airport users.
