The Coordinator of Ondo State National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, has asserted that corps members who are serious with SAED training should not look for paid employment after the service year.
SAED which means Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development is a special programme of the NYSC.
Akpabio made the assertion when she flagged off of SAED programme for the 2019 Batch ‘A’ corps members currently undergoing orientation course exercise at Ikare-Akoko.
She said NYSC had put in place structures that would encourage the corps members to embrace various skills and vocation of their choice to make life better for them during and after the orientation.
The NYSC coordinator in Ondo State charged the corps members to take serious the job opportunity provided by the in-camp training which when followed religiously would create jobs that eventually lead to wealth creation.
The coordinator who was represented at the ceremony by the Assistant Director/Head, Human Resource Management, Mr. Olayiwola Lasaki, thanked the trainers and facilitators for keeping faith with the scheme.
The SAED Monitoring Officer from NYSC Directorate Headquarters, Abuja, Mrs. Edith Ezenogo, charged the corps members to see the training as an opportunity to develop their entrepreneurial skills.
“The SAED programme will lead you away from remaining job seekers and white collar jobs dependence to becoming business owners and captains of industries in a foreseeable future,” she said.
The Head of SAED on Camp, Mrs. Olubunmi Ayodele, while welcoming the guests advised the corps members to pick among the 12 subsets skills the NYSC had provided trainers from.
Mrs. Ayodele who is holding forth for Mrs. Ehimwenma who is the Camp Director told the gathering that benefits to be received by participants were in two folds namely in-camp and post-camp trainings.
One of the guest speakers who represented DSI Gate, a youth empowerment and development institution, Mr. Charles Ade, highlighted the importance of digitisation and ICT in the emerging society.
Mr. Ade while encouraging the corps members to acquire at least one entrepreneurial skill, highlighted several benefits the members of the service corps would enjoy.
The corps members were full of praises over the scheme as another Motivational Speaker, Comrade Henry Okeke admonished them to be proactive towards SAED programme.
Mr. Okeke who is an ex-corps member said “NYSC Service year is not a year to waste but a year to invest.”
The motivational speaker encouraged the corps members to believe and invest in themselves and explained the 12Ps as a roadmap to a successful service year.
That, according to him, included Passion, Plan, Preparation, Purpose, Persistence and Perseverance among others.
At the colourful ceremony, Facilitators and Trainers of various skills introduced their programme which will last the next ten days.
The hands on training commences on 2nd April, 2019.
