What makes New Year resolutions work -Clergy
New Year resolutions

Pastor Harrison Ofou, Resident Pastor, Dwellers Assembly, Lugbe, Abuja, has said that discipline and commitment are fundamental to achieving yearly resolutions that people make.

He made this known in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Friday in Jos.

Ofou, a visiting minister for a “cross-over” service in Plateau, said that the reason why people made resolutions yearly without carrying through “is because of a lack of discipline and commitment.”

The clergy said he had also been in situations where he made resolutions and was not able to keep them.

“It’s not easy at all, too many times I have made resolutions and didn’t keep them because there was not enough commitment on my part and the required discipline to do so.

“However, there are times I have done that and it is really fulfilling to do so because resolutions are desired and required changes that we want to see or introduce into our lives to make us better.

“So we shouldn’t be moved by emotions or pressure to deny us from achieving those desired changes.

“Though it depends on the individual making them too; there are individuals who make new year resolution and stick to the resolution.

“Because they were disciplined and committed to effect the change while others just make resolutions emotionally and don’t have the discipline and commitment to pursue them,” he said

The clergy advised the public to be certain about the changes they wanted to effect in their lives before going ahead to make resolutions.

“In a matter of hours we would be ushering in a new year as we bid 2021 farewell, look at the resolution you are trying to make.

“Be sure that it is a change that you really want and need to introduce into your life, write them down and make a commitment to pursue them.

“Also make yourself accountable so that you will be committed to pursue them and achieve your goals,” he said.

Similarly Chief Seigha Ebide, resident in Jos, said that resolutions shouldn’t only be made at the beginning of the year.

“My advice to people is to be able to decide for themselves what they want and have the discipline to keep it.

“Resolutions shouldn’t only be on the first of January every year, it’s okay to make new year resolutions if you can keep them.

“But if you cannot, it doesn’t make you any less of a human too,” he said.
