We’ll protect corps members against illicit drug traffickers –NDLEA

The Ondo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has promised to checkmate the activities of illicit drug traffickers around corps members during the gubernatorial election coming up next month.

The State Commander of NDLEA, Mr. Gagara Haruna Abu, said his agency would frustrate any move through precision surveillance around the corps members to curb the excesses of drug addict who might want to take advantage of youthful exuberance of restive youths.

The commander who spoke in his office at Akure when he hosted the State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, said that the adventurous nature of youths may want to encourage them to fraternise with different people during the election.

“The State Coordinator Ma, it is imperative to let you know that there is no art to find the mind’s construction in the face, apology to King Duncan in Shakespeare novel, Macbeth. To this end, we shall ensure we drive away all wolves in sheep clothing around the corps members.

“We cannot afford to fold our arms and allow the misfits in the society to ruin our future which both government and parents have invested much resources on to get to this prestigious stage in life,” he said.

Abu, while expressing his gratitude to the state coordinator for nurturing and mentoring the youths across the country for better tomorrow, assured the scheme of maximum support and protection.

Speaking earlier on her mission to the NDLEA, Akpabio said the need to ensure maximum security for the corps members during the forthcoming gubernatorial election informed her decision.

The state coordinator appealed to the command not to leave any stone unturned at ensuring that miscreants under the influence of illicit drugs did not have a field day during the election.

Akpabio said that NYSC would continue to partner with relevant stakeholders to achieve the lofty objectives of the scheme as entrenched in the Act establishing it.

She thanked the commander and his worthy team for always availing NYSC the best cordial relationship especially whenever she called at odd times.

The NYSC boss who affirmed that the relationship between the two agencies was more than cordial said that the scheme would not hesitate to emulate the good and personal disposition of the commander, which she described as second to none.
