Nigerian investigative journalist, Tobore Ovuorie, has won the award for the Best Journalists, Human Rights Reporting at the 2019 West Africa Media Excellence Conference and Awards, WAMECA.
The award was convened by the Media Foundation For West Africa, MFWA, and held at the weekend at the Swiss Spirit Alisa Hotel, Accra, Ghana.
Ovuorie won the award with her five-part investigative series titled: “How Nigeria ‘Kills’ Children Living With HIV”, all published August 2018 in The Nation newspaper.
The organisers of the West Africa Media Awards said over 700 journalists from 15 African countries entered competitive stories for the award.
Ovuorie made the final list of 21 journalists before she was announced the winner of the Human Rights Reporting category.
