Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has decorated Usman Alkali Baba with the rank of the Inspector General of Police.
The event was held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday and witnessed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, the immediate past Inspector General of Police, Mohammed, Adamu and the Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi.
Also present were the Permanent Secretaries, State House, Tijjani Umar and Ministry of Police Affairs, and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.
President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, as the Acting Inspector General of Police on Tuesday.
The appointment was with immediate effect.
The Personal Assistant to the President on New Media, Bashir Ahmed, made it known on his Twitter handle.
He quoted the Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi as announcing the “President’s directive this afternoon.”
Alkali Baba replaces the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu.
Buhari extended the tenure of the Adamu by three months on February 4, 2021.
