Eight people have been confirmed dead following the collapse of a three-storey building at 24 Ibadan Street, off Muritala Mohammed Way, Ebute-Meta area of Lagos State on Sunday.
This is as 23 persons have been rescued from the debris of the collapsed building.
Those rescued are 16 adults and seven children.
Nine of those rescued alive are said to have been treated and discharged.
Meanwhile, another three-storey building at 100 Lagos Street is said to have shown signs of distress and may collapse.
It is about 200 metres away from the current one where rescue operation is being carried out.
The building was said to have been marked as distressed by the occupants have refused to vacate.
The building is said to have been resealed and the occupants evacuated by officials of the Lagos State Buildings Control agency, LABSCA.
The General Manager of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, also gave a report of the situation at the site where the rescue operation is ongoing.
His words: “On arrival at the scene of the incident, an old three-storey building was discovered to have collapsed.
“Further information gathered revealed that the incident occurred at about 10.56 p.m. with a yet to be determined number of people trapped.
“Search-and-rescue operations are ongoing…”
