Unlawful assembly: Court grants Sowore N20m bail

The publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has been granted bail in the sum of N20 million by a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Abuja, on Monday.

Sowore was arraigned over alleged unlawful assembly, criminal conspiracy, and inciting public disturbance.

Recall that he was arrested with others on New Year eve in Abuja.

Others arraigned with him and granted bail, but in the sum of N1 million each are Juwon Sanyaolu, Peter Williams, Emmanuel Bulus, and Damilare Adenola.

The Chief Magistrate, Mabel Segun-Bello also requested that Sowore should provide two sureties in like sum.

One of the sureties, the court said, must be a civil servant not below grade level 12.

Sowore was also ordered by the court to remain in Abuja, and report physically to the court registrar twice every week –Monday and Friday – pending the hearing and determination of the case.
