Two persons killed, 21 others arrested at Lagos rally

Two people suspected to be cult members were killed in Lagos on Wednesday following a clash at a political rally at Obankoro area, along Ikorodu Road.

The deceased, one Ibrahim, popularly known as Small Japron and one Solo, incidentally had been on the wanted list of the police in the state over clashes involving cult groups.

The spokesman of Police in the state, Chike Oti, while disclosing the incident in a statement, however, said no fewer than 21 persons suspected to be political thugs had been arrested in connection with the case.

He said the two suspected cult members killed were trailed to the venue by members of a rival cult group before they were killed.

According to him, the rally was organised by Hon. Ademorin Kuye.

Said he:  “The deceased persons, who had been involved in several cult clashes, were on the wanted list of the police for leading several cult fights in the Shomolu, Bariga, Fadeyi and Ojuelegba areas of the state.

“They were trailed to the gathering by a rival cult group who invaded the arena and began to attack people.

“The fight was however brought to an end by the police who arrived quickly at the scene and made some arrests.

“Unfortunately the notorious cultists, Ibrahim (a.k.a Japron) and Solo, died as a result of injuries sustained during the fight.”

Oti said the suspects arrested had been sent to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Panti, Yaba, for interrogation.

The police disclosed that manhunt was already being carried out for the the killers of the two persons.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, has warned politicians against organising any gathering without informing the police.

Kuye was said not to have informed the police about his gathering.
