The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State in the 2018 governorship election, Ademola Adeleke, has been declared the winner.
In its ruling in Abuja on Friday, the tribunal said the rerun which Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC, won to be declared winner was illegal.
After the first round of election which was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, won by Adeleke, a rerun was conducted.
Eventually, Oyetola was declared the winner of the rerun and has since been sworn in.
But complaining that the election was fraught with irregularities, Adeleke and his party, PDP, went to the tribunal to challenge Oyetola’s victory.
Delivering the judgement, the three man panel declared that Oyetola was not duly elected.
According to it, the returning officer who cancelled the votes in the polling units affected lacked the power to do so.
It therefore directed INEC to withdraw Oyetola’s Certificate of Return and issue a fresh one to Ademola Adeleke.
Oyetola however still has the grace to file an appeal against the judgement.
