Three children drown in Jigawa river –Police

The Police Command in Jigawa State says three children drowned on Wednesday while swimming in a river in Guri local government area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state,  ASP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the incident in statement on Friday in Dutse.

Shiisu said the deceased, identified as Musa Ahmad, 12; Yusuf Ahmad, 7 and Alkasim Muhammad, 14, drowned in the river on Wednesday.

“On 19/01/2022, at about 8 p.m., Insp Alhassan Sule, in charge of Gaduwa Police Outpost, Guri Divisional Headquarters, reported that three children namely, Musa Ahmad, 12, Yusuf Ahmad, 7, and Alkasim Muhammad, 14, all of Kazamaki Fulani Settlement Guri LGA, while rearing camels went to a stream located at Kazamaki village and drowned in the process of swimming to cross the river,” Shiisu said.

He explained that upon receipt of the report, natives of the village visited the scene and recovered the bodies of the deceased.

The PPRO added that the bodies were taken to Hadejia General Hospital where they were certified dead by the doctor on duty.

According to him, the corpses were later released to their relatives for burial, after preliminary investigation revealed that no foul play was suspected with regards to the incident.
