Take advantage of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, information handles to arm yourselves with requisite knowledge about the scheme, corps members deployed to Ondo State have been advised.

The Assistant Director/Head, Deployment and Relocation Branch, Mr. Babawale Owolabi gave the advice on Monday.

Owolabi, who is also the Camp Director offered the advice on the use of information handles to 2021 Batch ‘C’ (Stream 1) corps members undergoing orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.

In his lecture on Deployment and Relocation, he said that corps members should refrain from subscribing to incomplete information from their colleagues and desist from ‘they said’ syndrome which he said had negative impact on members of the service corps.

“Gentlemen corps members, as a versatile and enlightened members of the society, nothing should stop you from accessing adequate and correct information about NYSC at all times. Relying on your colleagues who are equally novice to access information about the noble scheme should not arise in the first place,” he said.

He announced that as a registered corps member, it was the responsibility of the management to post them to where their services would be well appreciated in line with the posting policy handed over to NYSC by the federal government.

“My special children in the national service, NYSC that has mobilised and deployed you to all the states of the federation including Federal Capital Territory has places to fix you for your primary assignment in line with the posting policy to critical areas of the economy. For emphasis sake, the four key areas are agriculture, education, healthcare and rural infrastructure”.

“What I am saying in essence is that you should not lobby for posting to places of primary assignment. Likewise, you should not influence anyone through gratification to assist you. Both the person who offers and the receivers are guilty under the NYSC Act.

“NYSC frowns at any act of corruption and the scheme will square it up with anyone found out to be tarnishing the good image or bringing the name of NYSC into disrepute. It is your right to be posted but when you are paying for it, you make it look like a privilege.”

On relocation, Owolabi said that every corps member had the right to apply for relocation on two solid grounds namely marital for female corps members only, and health for both male and female.

“However, let me reiterate that NYSC management reserves the right to grant your request for relocation or deny you if your reasons are not convincing enough but let me assure you that NYSC is a human scheme and will accede to the genuine requests by corps members who attach verifiable, credible and original documents to support their application”.

The camp director admonished the members of the service corps to periodically check their dashboards for current information and updates.
