The Nigerian Army has sustained significant operational successes across various theatres, including the neutralisation of terrorists, rescue of kidnap victims and arrest of criminal elements.

Operational updates made available indicate that the military had sustained gains in the last 24 hours across theatres.

In Plateau, the reports said troops of Operation Enduring Peace neutralised three terrorists during an ambush in Wase local government area and foiled an attack on civilians in Shendam, where injured victims were evacuated.

In Borno, it revealed that troops of Operation Hadin Kai thwarted an attempted improvised explosive device, IED, attack along the Konduga–Kawuri Road, neutralising two terrorists and recovering weapons.

According to the report, troops also arrested a suspected terrorist kingpin in Toungo, Adamawa, linked to kidnapping and attacks on security forces, as well as three logistics suppliers and a suspected kidnapper in Borno.

“Under Operation Fansan Yamma, troops rescued 10 kidnap victims in separate operations in Sokoto and Katsina, while also arresting five suspected cattle rustlers in Kebbi and recovering livestock.

“In the South-East, troops recovered and safely detonated four improvised explosive devices in Abia, while arresting suspected cultists and gunrunners in Cross River and Ebonyi states.

“In the Niger Delta, troops intercepted vandalised materials and a vehicle conveying about 900 litres of illegally refined petroleum products in Rivers,” it stated.

The report further revealed that security agencies intervened in a communal clash between Afo natives and Fulani herders in Nasarawa State to prevent escalation.

Military authorities said operations remained ongoing nationwide to sustain pressure on terrorists and other criminal elements.

Troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria have continued to deliver decisive strikes against terrorist and criminal elements across multiple regions killing over 30 terrorists, including high-value targets.

The troops also rescued dozens of abducted victims during the coordinated operations between March 7 and March 12.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, disclosed this in a weekly brief on the operations of the military in Abuja.

Onoja said that the troops of Operation Hadin Kai successfully curtailed terrorists’ movements and disrupted key supply lines across Yobe, Borno, and Adamawa.

He said the operations led to the apprehension of several key operatives, including logistics suppliers, tax collectors, and informants.

According to him, on March 9, troops recovered arms cache following repelled attacks in Mafa and Jere Local Government Areas of Borno.

“The following day, simultaneous assaults on FOB Tuba and Doro Baga were decisively thwarted.

“In Goniri, Yobe, troops repelled a multi-directional night attack, neutralising more than 20 terrorists, including Abu Yusu, the Munzir of Dursula, while recovering weapons, IEDs, and ammunition.

“Troops also rescued kidnap victims and seized supplies meant for insurgents.

“In Adamawa, swift responses to distress calls in Madagali and Maiha Local Government Areas led to the recovery of 23 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) intended for terrorist operations.

“Since 2015, Operation Hadin Kai has recorded the surrender of 122,843 insurgents, highlighting the sustained pressure on terrorist networks,” he said.

In North West, Onoja said the troops of Operation Fansan Yamma struck terrorists in Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara states.

According to him, key operations include the rescue of abducted victims from Mpape-Kuyeri Forest along the Abuja–Kaduna corridor, the destruction of a terrorist enclave in Tangaza local government area of Sokoto State.

He said there was also the interception of ammunition and rustled cattle in Gudu and Dagozawa villages.

“In the North Central region, the troops under Operations SAVANNAH SHIELD, ENDURING PEACE, and WHIRL STROKE maintained pressure on criminal and terrorist elements across Kwara, Niger, Plateau, Bauchi, Kaduna, Benue, Taraba, Nasarawa, and Kogi States.

“The operations led to the neutralisation of terrorists, recovery of arms, and rescue of kidnapped victims.

“Notable successes include the rescue of multiple victims in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara, Riyom and Mangu Local Government Areas of Plateau, and the interception of explosives in Bauchi State,” he added.

He further said that in the South-South and South-East regions, troops of Operations DELTA SAFE and UDO KA targeted criminal and separatist networks, including the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its Eastern Security Network (ESN).

“The operations resulted in the dismantling of illegal oil refining sites in Egbema West Local Government Area of Imo.

“Suspected kidnappers were also neutralised in Egoro Forest in Edo, and the disarming of IEDs along contested routes in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo, improving civilian access and safety,” he said.

Onoja emphasised that the ongoing operations, in spite of the challenges, reflected the courage and professionalism of the armed forces.

He said the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, had commended the public for providing timely intelligence.

Oluyede had also reaffirmed the military’s commitment to troop welfare, collaboration with other security agencies, and restoring lasting stability across the country.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde local government area with immediate effect following renewed violent attacks in some communities.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Humwashi Wonosikou, made this known in a statement issued on Monday in Yola.

A 24-hour curfew was imposed on December 8, 2025, following a “fresh eruption of communal hostilities” and attacks on the Bachama community.

Wonosikou said the directive followed renewed violence and breach of peace that reportedly claimed the lives of some residents in the affected communities.

He said the governor described the disturbances as unacceptable and directed security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly.

According to him, anyone or group found violating the directive will be arrested and dealt with in accordance with the law.

The governor said the curfew would remain in place until further notice.

He also directed security agencies to maintain law and order in the area while enforcing the restriction.

Fintiri urged residents to comply with the curfew and provide useful information to security agencies to ensure peaceful coexistence.

“Government will not condone acts of violence and will take necessary measures to restore peace and order,” he said.

The governor appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies to restore normalcy, reaffirming government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

The governor of Adamawa State, Amodu Umaru Fintiri, has reaffirmed his total commitment to the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 general elections, declaring that the state will deliver no less than 85 per cent of the total votes to the party.

Governor Fintiri made the declaration during a visit to the APC national secretariat in Abuja, where he was received by the national chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda; the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru; and members of the National Working Committee, NWC.

Speaking during the meeting, the governor emphasised that his visit was part of a familiarisation tour following his return to the APC, noting that he did not regard his move as a defection.

“We do not call it defection because we formed the APC together in 2014. This is a homecoming,” he stated.

Governor Fintiri assured the party leadership that political structures across Adamawa State had aligned with the APC and were already mobilising vigorously ahead of 2027.

“We are working towards delivering 85 per cent of the votes in Adamawa, and we will ensure that no other candidate secures up to 25 per cent in the state. We are fully integrated, fully on ground, and working tirelessly to achieve this goal,” he said.

He disclosed that the party had already held its first stakeholders’ meeting in the state, describing it as the largest political gathering in recent times.

“We are used to winning elections, and we have brought that winning culture back to the party. Everyone is on board, and we will ensure that no one is left behind,” the governor added.

Describing himself as a grassroots mobiliser, Governor Fintiri pledged to lead an aggressive but strategic mobilisation drive to consolidate the party’s dominance in the state.

“Our commitment is clear, to ensure a massive victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates in 2027. We are here, and we are here fully,” he affirmed.

In his response, the national chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, warmly welcomed the governor, describing his return as a reunion with the political family he helped build.

“I welcome you back home. Your place remains here. You are returning to the house you built and the castle you helped to establish,” the chairman said.

Yilwatda reiterated that the APC remained the only political party with a truly national outlook and broad acceptance across all regions of Nigeria.

“Our doors remain open. We welcome you wholeheartedly and assure you of full integration within the party structure,” he stated.

The national chairman further disclosed that the party’s membership register is up to date and ready for submission to INEC whenever required, underscoring the APC’s preparedness for future electoral processes.

He also assured that arrangements would be concluded to formally receive Governor Fintiri into the party ahead of the forthcoming national convention.

The visit signals strengthened unity within the APC and reinforces the party’s consolidation strategy in Adamawa State as preparations gather momentum for the 2027 general elections.

President Bola Tinubu, on Monday in Yola, Adamawa State, said his administration will sustain the ongoing economic reforms for the benefit of Nigerians, with a greater focus on the inclusion of citizens and their empowerment to achieve more prosperity.

The president, who was on a one-day official visit to Adamawa State, expressed happiness that the reforms were steadily yielding results across the country, with major transformations in many states, particularly in education, health, and infrastructure.

He praised Governor Umari Fintiri for delivering excellent service to the people.

“That is the consequence of us working together, and we will achieve more macroeconomic successes. We will achieve more for this country. We are investing heavily in agriculture and human capital development. We must be able to feed ourselves, feed the country.

“While we continue to encourage our governors, I must say, the solidarity that exists between the federal government and subnationals is extremely encouraging. Things that I don’t have to remind you, you’ll do it, you are carrying the people along. Please continue to do so.”

President Tinubu noted that the repositioning of the economy through the right policies enabled greater allocations to the states to carry out major projects that directly impacted people’s livelihoods.

The president commended Governor Umaru Fintiri for effectively utilising the allocations for the benefit of the people through the construction of roads and educational institutions.

“You’re reflecting the true commitment of a government of the people, by the people and for the people. You’re truly a reflection of who we are as a people united to achieve for our great nation.

“Umaru Fintiri, I’ve seen a tremendous amount of renewal, commitment from you in investments in the education of our children, and I commend your vision and commitment to the development of Adamawa State,” he said.

While applauding the governor for delivering tangible and socio-economically impactful projects, President Tinubu said an eight-lane road and an underpass that would ease mobility and stimulate commerce, and the modern high court built by the government would strengthen the administration of justice.

President Tinubu urged state governments to channel more resources into the fight against poverty, particularly in improving the quality of education for children.

The president thanked the traditional rulers for keeping the people working together for harmony and peace.

“To all the title chiefs, to the traditional leaders, to religious faith leaders, thank you for keeping the peace, working together for Adamawa, working in harmony with one another, encouraging the spirit of togetherness. It is not easy to endure macroeconomic changes and the dynamics in our politics, but I thank all of you,” he said.

The president praised the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, for providing strong leadership.

“National Security Adviser, the son of the soil, Nuhudeen Ribadu. I must say it clearly here that you’re doing an excellent job, and we are seeing the result. With you, we will defeat the bandits and terrorists. You’re a good National Security Adviser; honest, bold, courageous and committed to the job,” the president added.

Governor Fintiri thanked the president for accepting the invitation to visit the state and commission projects.

“We are honoured to receive you on your first visit, and we appreciate the privilege of having you here today to commission a few of our projects, which include a model school – one of the twenty- one model schools built across 21 local government areas of the state. This project cost us N24.8 billion.

“The expanded Galadima Aminu with overhead bridge, underpass, and dualised Gimba road, which was already reinforced with concrete water drains on both sides, cost N15.6 billion. The expanded and remodelled state High Court Complex A and D costs N5.5 billion, and the newly constructed office complex here in the Government House costs us N6.3 billion, respectively,” he said.

The governor commended the president’s laudable reforms, assuring him of the state’s and the indigenes’ support.

Five governors attended the event – Agbu Keffas of Taraba State; Babagana Zulum of Borno State; Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State; Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, and Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State. Some ministers and other top government officials also attended the event.

The Police Command in Adamawa on Thursday rescued two kidnap victims, and arrested one suspect during a coordinated security operation in Song local government area of Adamawa.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement in Yola.

He said that was in continuation of a decisive operation, aimed at combating kidnapping and enhancing public safety.

“The Adamawa Police Command has successfully rescued two kidnapped victims and arrested one suspected kidnapper, following their kidnapping at Gwewan Village, Dumne in Song LGA.

“The success was primarily due to the strategic deployment of combined security assets by the Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo.

“These led to a joint operation comprising Police operatives and some members of the local security outfits; The team carried out a coordinated raid on a suspected kidnappers’ hideout located at Suktu Mountain on Feb. 11.

“On sighting the security team, the suspected kidnappers engaged the operatives in gun duel but were forced to flee with possible gunshot injuries, abandoning two kidnap victims namely Rabe Mamman Sani, 18, and Aminu Mamman Sani, 16, who were rescued unhurt,” he said.

Nguroje said that during the operation, an identified 22-year-old suspect of Salasa Village, Dumne in Song local government area was arrested and he confessed to his involvement in the crime.

He added that the rescued victims were taken to the hospital, for medical examination, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate.

The government of Nigeria and humanitarian partners are urgently appealing for $516 million to respond to the most critical needs of 2.5 million people in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe, BAY, states in north-east Nigeria this year.

Women and children make up eight out of every 10 people in immediate need.

The appeal, through Nigeria’s 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan, HNRP, came amidst spiralling needs in the BAY states due to a 16-year conflict whose impact has been compounded by widespread displacement, limited access to basic services, climate shocks, economic hardship, and shrinking livelihood opportunities.

“Humanitarian needs are dramatically worsening at a time when we are facing the steepest decline in international funding for humanitarian operations,” said Mohamed Malick Fall, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria.

“Every day that funding gaps persist is a day that, yet another malnourished child is pushed closer to preventable death.”

In 2026, around 3 million children under five in Nigeria are projected to suffer from life-threatening severe acute malnutrition — 1 million of these children are in the BAY states.

Nearly 35 million Nigerians are also likely to face acute food insecurity during the 2026 lean season – 5.8 million of them in the BAY states.

The 2026 Nigeria HNRP also highlighted a transition to nationally-led and resourced humanitarian action, with the gradual phasing out of international support amid the global decline in humanitarian funding.

A successful transition will depend on a strong partnership between the government and humanitarian community.

In his remarks, the Federal Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, reaffirmed the government of Nigeria’s leadership and ownership of humanitarian coordination and response.

He said that “the Government would continue to provide policy direction, coordination, leadership, and systems alignment, ensuring that humanitarian efforts complement broader national reforms aimed at reducing poverty, strengthening human capital, and building resilient communities.”

In their messages, the governors of the BAY states – Professor Babagana Zulum (Borno), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), and Mai Mala Buni (Yobe) – reiterated their commitment to strengthened collaboration with humanitarian partners to deliver urgent assistance and advance durable solutions.

Funding to the 2025 HNRP ($282 million) was about half of what was received in 2024, resulting in a dramatic drop in humanitarian assistance.

In 2026, additional resources, including more government investment, are urgently required to help provide lifesaving food, nutrition, healthcare, water, sanitation, and protection services.

Improved security is a prerequisite to reduce risks to civilians and create conditions for durable solutions in the BAY states.

The government called on partners to align support with national priorities and to sustain engagement during the critical transition phase.

The federal government has said the strange flesh-eating disease responsible for seven deaths in Malabu, Adamawa State, is not Buruli Ulcer as initially suspected by health authorities.

Dr. Adesigbin Olufemi, Acting National Coordinator of the National Tuberculosis, Buruli Ulcer and Leprosy Control Programme, confirmed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Thursday in Abuja.

Olufemi said that all 22 specimens sent for laboratory confirmation of Buruli Ulcer tested negative, effectively ruling out the bacterial skin disease as the cause of the outbreak in Malabu.

He said further investigations were ongoing, led by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, and the African Field Epidemiology Network, AFENET, to determine the true nature of the illness.

According to him, some of the ulcer cases may be due to chronic trauma, especially as the affected community is largely agrarian and exposed to repeated injuries and infections.

He noted that possible causes could include diabetic ulcers, venous ulcers, trauma-related wounds, or even tumors, highlighting the need for continued diagnostic investigations and surveillance.

Olufemi confirmed that no new deaths had been reported, but the number of identified cases had increased from 67 to 82 following expanded awareness and active case finding in the community.

The increase, he said, followed intensified community sensitisation efforts, which enabled more people to seek help and report symptoms linked to the strange disease.

In September, the federal government initiated laboratory investigations to determine the cause of the flesh-eating disease that had emerged in Malabu, prompting nationwide concern.

As of September 10, 67 cases had been recorded, with eight patients receiving surgical treatment at the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, MAUTH, in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

According to medical reports, the disease typically begins as a small boil, then bursts open and progressively eats away at surrounding flesh, in severe cases even damaging underlying bones.
