The President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Tuesday as Eid-el-Fitri.
The declaration which was made in a televised message Monday night followed the sighting of the new moon.
In the broadcast, Abubakar said the moon had been sighted in Borno, Yobe and Katsina states.
With the new moon, the month of Shawwal has begun, hence the end of Ramadan.
Ramadan is the month of fasting for muslims.
The fasting is either for 29 or 30 days depending on the sighting of the moon.
Nigerian muslims will therefore join their counterparts across the world to celebrate the end of the month of fasting, Ramadan.
They will troop to prayer grounds after which they will return home to make merry.
