The House of Representatives on Thursday summoned President Muhammadu Buhari over the growing state of insecurity in the country.

The summon was issued following a motion sponsored by Ahmed Safana from Katsina State.

During the debate over the motion, the legislators concluded that it was necessary for the president to appear before them to explain the situation of things.

Specifically, they want him to explain what steps are being taken to put a stop to it.

They expressed serious worry over the wanton waste of lives by bandits and terrorists across the country.

Some of the legislators blamed the state of insecurity on inaction and inadequate policies to tackle the problem.

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Lasun, said with adequate policies in place and response on the part of the government, the state of insecurity would not have got to its present level.

“Is there any government in the last eight years that have shown us why people are being killed? No government.

“The major problem is the kind of policy we give out, either at state or local government level. It took Bill Gates to come and tell us in Nigeria that we’ve neglected health and education,” said Lasun.

On his part, Mohammed Monguno from Borno State attributed it to the rate of unemployment in the country.

He said with the problem of unemployment taken care of the state of insecurity would reduce.

“If we are going to feed the 200 million Nigerians, it is only thoughtful that we can create jobs for the youth so that they can have a means of livelihood,” he said.

He added: “If care is not taken, if the situation is not curbed, we will not be able to sleep. There are places in my community that you cannot travel to with a jeep or flashy car.”

The state of insecurity has increased in recent time, with bandits on the rampage in some parts of the country.

Kidnappers have also been operating while the terrorists group is also contributing its own quota to the problem.
