State election: Low turnout of voters recorded across
Low turnout

Low turnout of voters characterized the Governorship and House of Assembly election in many states of the federation.

Although the situation has been blamed on different reasons, chief among them are alleged suspected state of insecurity and claims that the votes might not count.

Some suspect that it could be as a result of the low interest shown in the Governorship and State House of Assembly election compared to what obtained in the Presidential and National Assembly election.

In Plateau State most polling units in Jos and Bukuru metropolis recorded low turnout of voters.

The same situation was witnessed at Dadin Kowa, Hwolshe, Abbattoir, Sabon Barki, Rayfield, Dogon karfe and Plateau Hospital areas.

In some units at Apata, Rantya, Busabuji, St Murumba and a host of other areas in Jos North Local Government Area, the turnout was low.

States in the South East like Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi and Imo State also witnessed a similar situation.

The number of voters at Enugu North and South Local Government were particularly low.

In Ekiti State, the number of voters that came out to vote was a sharp contrast to the number of the ones that came out to vote in the Presidential and National Assembly election held on February 23.

In the early hours of the day the turnout of voters was not impressive in some places including Ado Ekiti; Ifaki Ekiti; Ijero Ekiti and Emure Ekiti.

The same situation was recorded in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

Very few people were found in polling units in Garki – Area 2, Area 1, Area 10, Area 3, Area 7 and Area 8.

In fact at a polling unit in Area 7 area of Garki, as at 8.00 a.m., less than five people were found.
