The Ondo State coordinator of the The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani, has declared that one of the reasons for the establishment of the scheme was to groom graduate youths to take up leadership responsibilities in the country.

To that end, she admonished the deployed prospective corps members to the state to prepare to give selfless and patriotic service to the nation right from the orientation camp and throughout the service year.

Ani made the declaration on Sunday when she briefed 2021 Batch ‘B’ (Stream II) prospective corps members.

“Dear prospective corps members, you need to start to take responsibility for positions of trust this country is preparing you for. As graduates that have been found worthy in learning and character by your respective institutions of higher learning, NYSC remains the moulding ground that prepares you to actualise your potentials,” she said.

Ani announced that the three weeks orientation course was designed to expose the prospective corps members to various leadership training and activities that would make them better Nigerians.

“Anyone aspiring to the position of leadership should learn to make sacrifices for the general well-being of citizens and residents of this country starting with your colleagues here in camp. You have to be your brother’s keeper and protect them in any way you can,” she added.

The NYSC boss said the regimented nature of the camp, programmes and activities were compulsory, and instructions must be adhered strictly to.

“Your predecessors that came before you submitted wholeheartedly to the camp administration and we have been having seamless and stress-free orientation courses and now that it is your turn to undergo the three weeks intensive orientation course, we are expecting you to be more disciplined and cooperative.

“Abide by all the rules and regulations governing the conduct of orientation course, especially the non-pharmaceutical protocols of COVID -19 and do not be at the wrong side of the law so that you will not face the full wrath of the law. We have structure on ground to try erring corps participants and I hope you will not give chances to the Camp Court to prosecute you.

“On a very serious note, I want you to pray for the continuous peace in the country. Pray that we remain one indivisible entity and use the opportunity of your mobilisation and subsequent deployment to strengthen the unity and oneness among the various components that make up Nigeria,” she said.

Ani, in the course of the briefing, announced the three Corps Camp Directors that would assist in the running of the affairs of the three weeks orientation course.

The selected Corps Camp Directors: Otobo, Binalayefa Joshua with code number OD/21B/2789; Ukwa James, code number OD/21B/2748 and Okpan, Ugonma Awa, code number OD/21B/2335 will serve for one week each.

The COVID -19 Enforcement Vanguards and Camp Court Committee were equally inaugurated with a charge from the state coordinator to them to do everything humanly possible to discharge their respective duties effectively in line with the mandate establishing it.
