The Director Genera, Development Agenda for Western Nigeria, DAWN, Commission , Mr Seye Oyeleye, has assured that the South West governors will not misuse the newly established regional security outfit, Operation Amotekun.
Oyeleye gave the assurance while featuring on a radio programme, Inspiration FM 100.5, Ibadan, “Talk Radio.”
He said the security outfit was jointly set up by the six South West states thereby making it difficult for any of the governors in the region to misuse it.
According to him, contrary to the notion in some quarters concerning having state police due to fears that state governors could misuse it, there was no basis for such fears in the case of Amotekun.
On the motive behind the formation of the commission, the DG said it was for the development of Nigeria as a whole and not for sectional agenda.
Oyeleye stressed further that DAWN commission was not only for Amotekun , but for the educational, health, economic and social development of the South West region and Nigeria as a whole considering the fact that the region holds an important stake in the economic development of Nigeria.
