The police have begun investigation into the cause of a fire incident that killed six children of one family in Lagos on August 6, 2019.
The incident occurred at Abagbo Village, Takwa-Bay
The children who were burnt beyond recognition are 13 years old Folake Ogundiya; 8 years old Abigail Ogundiya; 6 years old Daniel Bakare; Chidima Achomye; 2 years old Nnamdi Achomye and 1 year old Khadijat.
According to a report from the Lagos State Police Command as issued by its spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana, the attention of the Takwa Bay Police Station was drawn to the incident on August 7, 2019.
During the visit of the police operatives to the scene of the incident, it was gathered that the children were locked up in a room while one Suliat, in whose custody they were, left to an unknown destination.
The mother of the children, Florence Asoye, was said to have returned home only to meet the house burnt down with the children dead.
The police statement reads in part: “In her statement, the mother of the victims, Florence Asoye ‘f’ stated that she left home at about 1830 hours to Takwa-Bay Jetty only to come back to see her room completely razed down by fire.
“That she left her children under the care of one Suliat ‘f’ but locked the children in the room and left to unknown destination.”
Meanwhile, the police have also begun investigation into the death of a female lodger gound dead in an hotel room in Lagos State.
Disclosed the police: “On 9/8/2019 at about 1400hours, Morogbo Police Station received an information that one Jessica ‘f’ a lodger in Southbound Hotel, Morogbo, was found dead in her hotel room.
“Homicide detectives visited the scene. Corpse of the deceased person was found on the bed facing up, with swollen face and foam-like fluid out of her mouth.
“Her throat was knotted with clothes suggesting that she might have been strangulated.
“There were blood stains all over the place.
“The corpse was evacuated to mortuary for autopsy while the scene was preserved for forensic analysis.
“The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Zubairu Muazu, mni, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, to take over the investigation.”
