The plan by the Federal Government to increase train fare is unjust, unfair, soulless and insensitive, former Senator representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has declared.
Sani made the declaration on Monday in reaction to the plan by the federal government to increase the fare following the need to observe social distancing in the boarding of trains.
The plan was announced on Saturday by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Ameachi, on Saturday.
He explained that because the number of passengers in each of the coaches would be reduced to 40 from 88, in view of the need for social distancing, the fare would be increased.
His words: “This is because each coach takes 88 passengers but we will reduce it to 40 and the price will increase, but we will need to talk to the president before we move on.”
However, reacting to the plan on his Twitter handle, Sani said the government should make life easier for the people.
His tweet reads: “To the transportation minister @ChibuikeAmaechi and the ministry; 100% increase in train fare is unjust, unfair, soulless & insensitive. Make things easier for the people when you are on top of the rock of power, you will meet with them when you are back to the base of life.”
