The ambition of the Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, to represent Oyo South Senatorial District of Oyo State at the Senate after the expiration of his second term in office was cut short at the polls on Saturday.
He was defeated by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Kola Balogun.
Abiola Ajimobi is of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
This is how it happened: Balogun trounced Ajimobi with 13,502 votes difference to emerge the winner of the contest.
Declaring the results for the senatorial district, Wole Akinsola, said the PDP candidate polled a total of 105,720 votes, while Ajimobi of the APC had 92,217 votes.
Ajimobi won in Ibadan South-West, Ibarapa Central and Ido, while Balogun won in Ibadan-North, Ibadan North-West, Ibadan North-East, Ibadan South-East, Ibarapa-North, Ibarapa -East.
Soji Akanbi who currently represents the senatorial district came third in the election.
He contested on the platform of the African Democratic Party, ADC.
