The Appeal Court on Friday affirmed the decision of the election petition tribunal which sacked Mr. Dino Melaye as the senator representing Kogi West.

This is as the court ordered that a fresh election should be conducted in the district.

Dino Melaye was declared the winner of Kogi West senatorial seat in the last general election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

However, his All Progressives Congress, APC, opponent, Smart Adeyemi petitioned the tribunal alleging irregularities in the election which was held in February.

In its ruling, the tribunal sacked Melaye and ordered a fresh election.

Contesting the ruling of the tribunal, Melaye told the Appeal Court that he was denied fair hearing and that the evidence adduced during the hearing was not evaluated.

But in its ruling on Friday, the Appeal Court affirmed the decision of the tribunal and ordered that a fresh election should be conducted within 90 days.

Meanwhile, Melaye has reacted to the decision of the court.

He said he gave thanks to God and believed that God that started a good thing would finish it.

His reaction which he tweeted reads: “I just lost my election at the appeal court. In all things, I give God the praise. He who started a good thing will definitely complete it. I ask my supporters to be law abiding as we shall always overcome. To God be the glory.”
