The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has got another chance to take a shot at the senatorial seat of Akwa Ibom North-West.
This is as the Court of Appeal sitting in Calabar, Cross River State, on Saturday ordered the rerun of the senatorial election for the district in the last general election.
Chris Ekpeyong of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was announced as the winner of the election by the Independent National Election Commission, INEC.
Akpabio contested for the same seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Dissatisfied with the outcome, Akpabio challenged the Ekpeyong’s victory at the election petition tribunal, but lost.
He went further to the Appeal Court insisting that Ekpeyong’s election was fraught with irregularities.
Delivering its judgement on Saturday, the court ordered that a rerun should be conducted at Essien Udim local government area.
Akpabio is from the area.
The re-run, the court ordered, must be held within 90 days.
Akpabio was a senator on the platform of the PDP before he later crossed over to APC to contest for the same post in the last election.
