Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, has been sacked by the Kogi State National Assembly/State Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal.
He was declared winner of the February 2019 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The verdict of the tribunal followed complaints of alleged electoral malpractices filed by Smart Adeyemi, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Dino Melaye contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The tribunal ordered that a fresh election should be conducted in the senatorial district as it held that the grounds upon which Melaye’s victory was challenged were good enough.
The three-man panel that gave the verdict was headed by Justice A. O. Chijioke.
