A security expert, Colonel Rotimi Alade (rtd), has advised corps members to familiarise themselves with security personnel within the places of primary assignment and host communities.
Colonel Alade (rtd) who is the Chief Executive Officer of Oakland Security Company, a private security outfit gave the advice to corps members in NYSC camp, Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State.
Speaking on Security Awareness, Alade said that the best option in the face of challenges threatening the peace and stability of Nigeria was for the corps members to identify relevant security agencies and make friends with them.
The security expert explained that the country was going through challenges concerning security, peace and stable polity but add that everyone must be his or her chief security officer and be conscious of their environment.
He encouraged them to be friendly with their neighbours where they reside as well as people in their places of primary assignment so that when they see strange faces, they would be able to identify and report to security agencies.
The retired Army officer said that corps members should not be predictable and change their routine and routes often so that people with criminal intentions would not take advantage of their predictability.
He admonished them to resist the temptation of going to hot spots and abstain from drugs.
Alade equally told the corps members to restrain themselves from embarking on night journeys or live flamboyantly as that might give clue to criminals that were comfortable which might make them targets for assault.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, NYSC, Ondo State, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, said to nip in the bud any security challenge during the service year the NYSC had to go into collaboration with reputable security outfits to lecture corps members on how best to secure their lives and properties during the service year.
