Scavenger who stole Christmas decoration materials jailed for 30 days

A 45-year-old scavenger, Kamorudeen Salau, who stole Christmas decoration materials worth N25,000 belonging to Oyo State government has been jailed.

He is to spend 30 working days behind the bars.

The jail sentence was given on Tuesday by an Iwo Road Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan.

The scavenger pleaded guilty to the charge against him.

According to the Chief Magistrate of the court, Mr Taiwo Oladiran, the scavenger was found guilty of the charge against him.

The convict however was given an option of N20,000 fine.

Salau was said to have stolen some iron rods and some Christmas decoration materials.

The iron rod was said to have cost N20,000 while the decoration material was put at N5,000.

According to the police prosecutor, Sunday Ogunremi, the offence which was committed at the state secretariat roundabout, Agodi, Ibadan, contravened section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol.II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
