The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has warned members of the public to be wary of fraudsters promising them some amount of money for supporting him.
He said he had no hand in it.
The warning was given on Monday by Mr. Paul Ibe, spokesman of the presidential candidate, in an interview with our correspondent.
Ibe spoke against the backdrop of an apparently fraudulent text message making the rounds and promising to pay the sum of N85,000.00 for supporting Atiku.
The message reads: *PDP* Atiku for President 2023. Vote Atiku Abubakar for change. 85,000 as an appreciation to Atiku supporters. For payment, call 07049813465.
Reacting to the text message, Ibe said: “It is a scam. It is a fraud. We have disowned several of such fraudulent messages.”
He added: “Nigerians need to be wary because these scammers are becoming very innovative. They go into WhatsApp groups and take control, and extort money from unsuspecting persons.
“People need to be very wary so that they don’t present themselves in situations where their savings will be taken away by these criminals.”
